The compression garment
Choosing the right compression garment is essential for good healing. Nicolas Amat helps you find the right one, in liaison with your surgeon.
Why drainage changes the aesthetic result
After liposuction or a tummy tuck, the body responds with swelling and with scar tissue forming under the skin. If that tissue sets unevenly, the visible result becomes uneven too: hollows, bumps, hard areas. That is fibrosis, and it is far easier to prevent than to correct.
Manual drainage, started early and repeated, helps the body clear fluid and stops adhesions from settling. It also eases pain and the feeling of tightness, and most patients sleep better from the first sessions.
The schedule of sessions
Drainage usually starts within the first days after the procedure, once your surgeon allows it, several times a week. The pace then eases over the following weeks as the swelling comes down.
Scar work starts later, once the wound has fully closed. It aims to soften the tissue, limit retraction and improve the final appearance. Here too, consistency matters more than the intensity of any single session.
The compression garment
Compression is the other half of the treatment. A poorly fitted garment, too loose or digging in too hard, can create folds and new irregularities. Nicolas Amat checks the fit at every session and helps you choose the right one, in liaison with your surgeon.
Frequently asked questions
When should drainage start after liposuction?
Most often within three to five days, as soon as your surgeon allows. The earlier drainage starts, the less time fibrosis has to organise.
How many sessions are needed?
It depends on the extent of the procedure. Ten to fifteen sessions over six to eight weeks is common, starting at a higher frequency.
Is it painful?
Drainage is slow, moderate-pressure work, not a deep massage. It is generally well tolerated, even early after surgery.
Does it also work after breast surgery?
Yes, the principle is the same: limit swelling, prevent adhesions and support healing.
Do you work with my surgeon?
The protocol follows their instructions, and we can liaise if your follow-up calls for it.
