Shoulder physiotherapy in Dubai

The shoulder is one of Nicolas Amat's specialties. Pain, stiffness or recovery after surgery: every treatment starts with a full assessment to understand the cause, then follows a precise programme to regain a mobile, strong and pain-free shoulder.

Why the shoulder needs precise treatment

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body and the least constrained by bone. Its stability comes from muscle: the rotator cuff centres the humeral head, and the shoulder blade stabilisers give the whole movement a fixed base. When that system goes wrong, the pain often appears far from its cause.

This is why a shoulder assessment does not stop at the shoulder. We look at shoulder blade position, thoracic spine mobility, the neck, and sometimes the full sporting or working movement. Treating only the painful spot buys a few days of relief, no more.

The shoulder is one of the areas Nicolas Amat has worked on most across twenty years of practice, between private practice in France and clinics in Dubai.

Frozen shoulder, a case of its own

Adhesive capsulitis runs through three phases: a painful phase, a stiff phase, then recovery. Each calls for different treatment, and rehabilitation that is too aggressive during the painful phase makes things worse rather than better.

The physiotherapist's job is to identify the phase, adjust the intensity, and hold on to as much available range as possible without feeding the inflammation. It is slow work, measured in months, where consistency matters more than intensity.

Shoulder pain in Dubai athletes

Padel, tennis, swimming and golf dominate sport in Dubai, and all of them load the shoulder overhead. The most frequent presentations are subacromial impingement, rotator cuff tendinopathy and, in racket players, a progressive loss of internal rotation.

Treatment does not stop at the pain: it corrects what produced it, which is usually a rotation deficit, poor shoulder blade control, or a playing volume that rose too fast.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if it is frozen shoulder or tendinitis?

Frozen shoulder restricts movement in every direction, including when someone else moves your arm. Tendinopathy hurts on certain movements but leaves passive range broadly free. The assessment settles it.

How long to recover from rotator cuff repair?

Usually four to six months before returning to normal activities, longer for overhead sport. The first six weeks are protected, with no active movement.

Can surgery be avoided?

For many tendinopathies and some partial tears, yes, a well-run strengthening programme gives results comparable to surgery. The decision belongs to your surgeon, based on imaging and your activity level.

My shoulder wakes me at night, is that serious?

Night pain is common in cuff problems and frozen shoulder. It is not a sign of severity in itself, but it justifies an assessment rather than months of waiting.

How much is a session?

550 AED.
